Best of Spring Lace

Nightcap dress, Schutz shoes, Thale Blanc purse

Florals for spring… groundbreaking. Lace for spring… also (not) groundbreaking, but there are SO many gorgeous lace dresses out there right now that I had to round up the best ones.

Spring and fall are my favorite seasons to dress for, and I always get a little extra giddy when spring arrives. I think this is because my winter style tends to be a little less feminine than usual and I stay bundled up in jeans, boots and soft layers. When March arrives, I’m more than ready to ditch the boyish outfits in favor of something ultra-feminine.

It was pretty much love at first sight with this apron lace dress. It also comes in both black and white (the white version is so beautiful for summertime). An apron dress can be tricky to style since the bib part reads a little young. To avoid a schoolgirl vibe, look for apron pieces in a sheer or lace fabric that add a sophisticated element. The apron shape instantly feels grown up when a little skin is visible beneath.

This styling method goes for overalls and cap-sleeve babydoll dresses too. I feel like I’m constantly weighing “sweeter” shapes with my body type to find a good balance. I’m 5’6 and pretty petite overall with a small bust so when I reach for super girly dress shapes, I have to mix them with contrasting pieces to avoid looking childish. Denim overalls with a high heel, a babydoll dress with a leather jacket. You get the idea. It seems like tall girls or bustier girls can get away with the sweeter, younger looking pieces since a tall or womanly frame automatically changes the entire look.  Then again, the grass is always greener right?

If you’re into the dress I’m wearing in this post, I can guarantee you’ll love this black and white lace dress with open shoulders and a bow detail. It makes me want to plan a garden party just to wear it. This tangerine-hued dress pairs well with a denim jacket and sandals this spring and will be the best thing to reach for on a balmy July night come summer. If you like bright color, try this deep-V lace dress (it’s actually a romper with a lace overlay). Not so into bold color but still want a flattering alternative to white? This pretty periwinkle blue high/low dress fits the bill.

Let’s talk about this gorgeous Thale Blanc bag for a moment.  I recently had the pleasure of meeting Deborah Sawaf, the designer, and the experience made me love her line even more. Deborah is so talented and creative (and beautiful), but most of all she is committed to giving back, working to improve the lives of children with pediatric cancer and help find cures. Her bags are works of art with stunning attention to detail; investment pieces that will last a lifetime. This bag also came with a leather fringe strap which I’ll have to post soon (especially with Festival Season upon us) but I swapped it out for this delicate chain strap for this look.

Nightcap also makes my dress in a shorter romper version, as well as a longer jumpsuit version. I can’t decide which I like better; they’re both such adorable spring pieces. Find the best lace dresses in my Shop the Style bar below!
